‘Job Creators,’ A Poem About Income Inequality By Rep. Gwen Moore

Editor’s Note: We at ThinkProgress are supportive of efforts to use the arts to explain policy, and welcome Gwen Moore’s experiment in this space. Also, someone should auto-tune this.

As income disparity continues to climb, Thinkprogress ventured to Capitol Hill to find a voice for the middle class and poor, and we happened upon Wisconsin’s Rep. Gwen Moore (D).

Noting how inequality holds the economy back, Moore spoke up against the “class warfare” attack.  If the GOP wants to take every nickel and dime, from the struggling 99 Moore thought she’d call out their crime by offering up her take in rhyme.

On the Issues: Wisconsin U.S. Representative Gwen Moore

After serving 16 years as a state lawmaker, Congresswoman Moore was elected to the House of Representatives in 2004. The Milwaukee Democrat represents Wisconsin’s 4th District, which includes Milwaukee and her alma mater, Marquette University. Moore is a member of the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Budget Committee. In addition to her committee work, Congresswoman Moore was elected Democratic co-chair of the Congressional Women’s Caucus by her female colleagues. She’ll discuss the critical issues facing this nation, and today’s political climate, during her appearance at the Law School. Marquette Law School, Eckstein Hall

Rep. Moore In Town To Promote Jobs Bill

MILWAUKEE -- U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee, is working to gain support for the jobs bill and stopped at Milwaukee Area Technical College Monday morning.

Moore said the jobs act would help schools like MATC modernize their labs and classrooms.Members of the U.S. Senate voted down the bill.

It has been introduced in the House of Representatives, but it's up to Republicans to bring it up for discussion and a vote.

"We're depending on the American people to bring pressure among the majority party to bring this bill to the floor," Moore said.During her visit to MATC, Moore stopped by one of the school's welding labs.James Johannsen was looking for the spark that could ignite his stalled career."I did welding for several years, got laid off and couldn't get a job," Johannsen said.But the 29-year-old was hesitant to go back to school.

Community meetings scheduled for Milwaukee Post Office

MILWAUKEE- The proposed closing of five post offices in the city of Milwaukee has some elected officials concerned. Congresswoman Gwen Moore pointed out in a press conference Monday that all are concentrated in African-American neighborhoods.

Moore is asking people to show up to one of three public hearings and voice their opinion.

The first community meeting regarding proposals for Teutonia Station and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Station is set for Wednesday, October 19th, from 6-8 at HeartLove Place on 3229 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.
